Corpse-Eating Xue boss guide: win the 1v5, not the health bar

Corpse-Eating Xue boss guide: win the 1v5, not the health bar in-game character art

Corpse-Eating Xue only takes damage on her own body or the green-flame corpse. Keep the crowd at 1v2, reset corpse weapons by killing, and dodge the scream grab.

FAQ

Where is Corpse-Eating Xue in Phantom Blade Zero?
Behind a locked door in the Mandate Encampment. She is an optional encounter and one of the easiest bosses in the region to walk straight past.
How does the Xue Muxia side quest unlock?
Defeating Corpse-Eating Xue unlocks the Xue Muxia side quest automatically. There is no item drop from the fight itself — the quest is the reward.
Why is Corpse-Eating Xue not taking damage?
She is only vulnerable on her main body or on the corpse aglow with green flames. Hits on the other corpses do nothing to her, and every slain corpse is replaced by a new one.
What does Corpse-Eating Xue drop?
Unlocks the Xue Muxia side quest. Completing that quest rewards the Sha-Chi Headscarf item.

Getting there

Corpse-Eating Xue waits behind a locked door in the Mandate Encampment. She is optional and easy to miss — the door does not announce itself, and nothing on the critical path forces you through it. If you are clearing the encampment’s side content, make a pass for the locked door before leaving the region.

The fight is a 1v5

Xue is the tall figure holding a rake at the start of the fight. She is accompanied by four other corpses holding random weapons, and the corpses respawn infinitely — every one you fell is replaced.

The damage rule is the whole fight: Xue only takes damage when you attack her main body or the corpse aglow with green flames. Swings that land on the other corpses return nothing, so it is easy to burn a full combo string on a body that does not matter. Read which corpse is burning before you commit.

Control the weapon pool

Because slain corpses respawn with a random weapon, killing them is not just crowd control — it is a way to reset what the surviving corpses are fighting with. Use that.

Two corpse types deserve an immediate kill, glowing or not:

Corpse Why it has to go
Spear Long reach that can hit you from off-screen
Dual-wielding garden hoes Multi-hit strikes and gap-closing jump attacks that are deadly while present

Neither threat comes from Xue herself. Killing these corpses trades a few seconds of crowd work for a permanently quieter arena.

Avoid getting surrounded

The fight forces a 1v5, and getting surrounded puts you at the mercy of five attack strings at once — each type of corpse has its own red glint and blue glint moves, so a full circle is unreadable.

The answer is spacing. Distance yourself first and let the corpses charge at you instead of pushing into the pack. That converts the fight into a 1v1 or 1v2 at any given moment, in open space, on your terms. Reset the distance whenever the pack tightens again.

The scream means grab

After Xue screams, she charges and performs a grab attack that can only be avoided with a dodge — blocking and parrying do not answer it.

The reliable read: distance yourself immediately when she screams. This prompts her to rush at you first, which hands you the one thing the grab otherwise denies — time. With the charge coming from range, you can prepare the dodge and sidestep it cleanly instead of reacting to it point-blank.

Rewards

No item drops from the fight itself. Defeating Corpse-Eating Xue unlocks the Xue Muxia side quest, and completing that quest unlocks the Sha-Chi Headscarf item. If you are hunting accessories, the headscarf is the reason to detour here.

Notes

  • Only two targets matter: Xue’s body and the green-flame corpse. Everything else is scenery that swings back.
  • Kill spear and dual-hoe corpses on sight, glowing or not — reach and gap-closers are what kill you here, not Xue’s rake.
  • Never stand in the middle of five. Pull back, let them come, fight 1v2.
  • The scream is a dodge check. Create distance when it starts, sidestep the charge.
  • The quest is the drop. The Sha-Chi Headscarf comes from finishing it.
  • Wan-Jun — another optional encounter in the Mandate Encampment
  • Red — the second hidden fight in the same area, easy to walk past
  • Hua — another optional boss that hides off the main path
