FAQ

Where is Blaze in Phantom Blade Zero?
Pengzhen, up the long staircase from the southern gate bridge. Walk up and the fight triggers on approach — it is on the main path of Town of Death.
What accessory should I bring to Blaze?
The Flameward. It cuts fire damage and burn buildup by 50%, and it is found in a chest before the fight. Without it, the second phase's fire output is the whole difficulty.
How do you stagger Blaze?
Dodge the leap at the end of his sideways chain whirlwind. Six chain hits are blockable, then he leaps with the burning orb — a clean dodge there triggers a cinematic dodge and a massive stagger.
What does Blaze drop?
Fire Meteor and Crimson Fresh Lily, plus story progression into the rest of Pengzhen.

Getting there

From the southern gate bridge in Pengzhen, take the long staircase up and keep walking. The fight triggers on the approach — no arena gate, no shortcut.

Equip the Flameward first

Flameward cuts fire damage and burn buildup by 50%, and it sits in a chest on the way in. This is not a nice-to-have: burn is stacked on nearly every hit in his kit, and phase two leans on fire so heavily that skipping the charm turns a readable fight into a health race.

Pair it with the Outlaw Warblade for the healing, and swap your fourth accessory slot to Flameward rather than stacking damage.

How to fight him

The whirlwind ends in your stagger window

He starts spiralling his chains sideways into a six-hit chain string, then leaps with the burning spiked orb on the end. Block the six hits, and dodge the leap.

A clean dodge there triggers a cinematic dodge and a massive stagger — the single biggest opening in the fight. Take the hits, then get out before he starts the next string.

The ground slam is lethal, not chip

He swings his chains in loops on both sides, then smashes the orb into the ground with fire. That slam kills rather than chips: burn plus impact. Dodge it, do not block it, and do not try to trade into the wind-up.

The fire ring

When he whirls the chains overhead, a ring of fire forms in the air and tracks you, then slams down after a delay. Jump the outer edge — touching the rim is damage. The window right after the slam is free hits on him.

Phase 2: fire breath into the one-hit grab

Phase two starts leaning on burn. When he breathes fire, expect a jump followed by a fast lunge into a one-hit grab — an uninterruptible sequence that is lethal on contact. Dodge the lunge, not the breath.

Red glint grabs in this fight sit at the end of combos, not the start. Watch the last hit of every string.

The adds

Around one-third health he summons two Shadow Warden adds. Two options:

  • Focus one until its bar is low, then take the execution prompt — it kills both regardless of the second one’s health.
  • Ignore them entirely and burn Blaze down if his health is already low. Depleting his bar moves you to phase two and the adds stop mattering.

The second option is faster and usually correct; the execution prompt is the safe version if your damage is low.

Ground patches

When he bends over backwards and smashes his head into the ground, fire patches start forming. Follow-up fire comes out of those patches — clear the area rather than standing your ground.

Gear

Slot Pick Why
Accessory Flameward Fire damage and burn −50%; mandatory
Main weapon Outlaw Warblade Healing through a long burn fight
Defence Block the chains, dodge the orb Six hits are cheap; the leap is not
Movement Jump the fire ring edge It tracks you; you cannot outrun it flat

Rewards

Fire Meteor and Crimson Fresh Lily — upgrade materials rather than a weapon, which is unusual for a chapter boss.

Notes

  • Flameward before anything else. Half the fight is burn management.
  • Whirlwind → dodge the leap. That is the stagger.
  • The slam kills. Never block it.
  • Jump the ring edge, do not run from it.
  • The no-glint grab only costs tempo, not health. Plan short combos.
  • Phase-2 breath leads to a grab. Dodge the lunge.
