Xie Qiudong boss guide: hit the adds, not the healer in-game character art

Xie Qiudong heals by hitting you, and hurts himself by healing his adds. Ignore him, clear the free adds first, and he is nearly dead when you finally turn around.

FAQ

How do you beat Xie Qiudong?
Do not attack him. Attack the adds that are free to move. When he heals a bound add, he takes damage equal to that heal, so clearing the free adds drains most of his health bar for you. Finish him afterwards.
Why should you kill the free adds before the bound ones?
The source warns that touching the bound adds first gets you surrounded by both the boss and the mobile adds. Kill the mobile ones, then he has almost nothing left.
Where is Xie Qiudong?
Pengzhen. After beating Gu Wanyue, follow her into the well, climb the ladder to the end room, jump across the left-hand plank to the high ledge, activate the Three Ships Well Bottom (三船殉难井底) bell, and take the stairs outside.

At a glance

Region Pengzhen
Mechanic He self-damages whenever he heals a bound add
Drop Everflow (healing item)

Getting there

  1. In Pengzhen, defeat Gu Wanyue.
  2. Follow her into the well — do not teleport out.
  3. Climb the ladder to the room at the end.
  4. Jump across the left-hand plank to the high ledge.
  5. Follow the path to activate the Three Ships Well Bottom bell (三船殉难井底).
  6. Take the stairs behind it to the outside. The fight triggers there.

The mechanic that solves the fight

Xie Qiudong is a healer, and the fight is built around a self-punishing loop:

  • He regenerates by damaging you — trading with him directly is a losing exchange.
  • But when he heals one of the bound adds, he loses health equal to the heal.

So every heal he throws at his own side is damage he does to himself. Your job is not to out-damage him. It is to keep him healing, which means keeping his adds alive long enough to be worth healing — while killing the ones that can actually hurt you.

The instruction, near enough verbatim: ignore the healer and the bound adds, fight only the adds that move freely, and he will be near death by the time the room is clear. What is left is a finisher.

Why this is a good page and not a thin one

Most single-source boss pages on this site are thin because the source is thin. This one is short because the fight is narrow: one loop, one correct order. There is no move list to memorise and no phase change to plan around.

That is worth saying out loud, because the fight looks like a standard escort/healer encounter and is not. Players who spend the first minute attacking Xie Qiudong are fighting a boss with self-healing and no downside; players who spend it on the adds are fighting a boss who is killing himself.
